In other news, a good number of gorilla births have been registered in the region. About 22 gorilla babies were birthed in Virunga National Park and 17 babies in Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Area between July 2020 and June 2021. Thanks to the strengthened conservation measures by the parks, registering safe births during such challenging times is a testament to a lot of effort invested in the protection and safety of the Endangered mountain gorillas.
“When we conserve with the willingness to improve and adhere to different stricter conservation measures, the results are always great.” Nelson Guma, Chief Park Warden, Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Area.
In the same development Volcanoes National Park also registered several births to be unveiled at the upcoming Gorilla naming ceremony (Kwitaizina) in September this year.
