    Wellard Makambo

    Wellard Makambo

    Director

    Wellard joined IGCP in 2007. Wellard is a Congolese national and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with a major in Business Administration from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. Wellard has served as a manager in charge of coordinating the IGCP program across the three countries with support of the Country Coordinators. Since 2022, Wellard assumed a new position as IGCP Director. Wellard is passionate about football, music, and community development.

    Alice Mbayahi

    Alice Mbayahi

    Communications and Media Engagement Expert

    Alice joined IGCP in 2015 as Communications Officer and became the Communications and Advocacy Manager in February 2020. Alice is a Ugandan national and holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies from Makerere University, and a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Uganda Christian University. Alice manages and champions IGCP’s communication and advocacy mountain gorilla work in the region. Alice is passionate about advocacy comms for best practices and community development.

    Benjamin Mugabukomeye

    Benjamin Mugabukomeye

    Rwanda Country Coordinator

    Benjamin joined IGCP in 2010. Benjamin is a Rwandese national and holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Kibungo and a Diploma in wildlife management from Wildlife school/ Cameroun. Benjamin coordinates IGCP’s strategic engagement with government, park edge communities and civil society partners to support the conservation of the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Benjamin is passionate about harmonious living between park adjacent communities and the park.

    Henry Mutabaazi

    Programme Advisor, Uganda

    Henry joined IGCP in August 2017. Henry is a Ugandan national and holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Resource Management from University of Essex in UK, a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management, a Bachelor of science degree in Forestry, and a Diploma in Education. Henry coordinates IGCP’s strategic engagement with government, park edge communities and civil society partners to support the conservation of mountain gorillas in Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Area in Uganda. Henry is passionate about enhancing people and park relations through empowering the park edge communities to participate in the conservation of mountain gorillas.

    Altor Musema

    DRC Country Coordinator

    Altor joined IGCP in 2006. Altor is a Congolese national with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Kisangani DRC and a master’s degree in Applied Biology (Ornithology from the University of Burundi in Bujumbura). Altor coordinates IGCP’s strategic engagement with government, park edge communities, and civil society partners to support the conservation of mountain gorillas in Virunga national park in DRC. Altor is passionate about bird watching.

    Sarah Kigongo

    Sarah Kigongo

    Field Implementation Expert, Uganda

    Sarah joined IGCP in June 2018. Sarah is a Ugandan national and holds a master’s degree in Development Studies with a specialization in Population Poverty and Social Development from the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands, and a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University. Sarah worked on the Water4Virunga project and was responsible for coordinating and backstopping the W4V community engagement approach in Rwanda and Uganda. Currently Sarah works as a project officer. Sarah is passionate about improved WASH systems and community development.

    Liliane Nakayima

    Communications Officer

    Liliane joined IGCP in Sept 2020 as a communications officer. Liliane is a Rwandese national and holds a bachelor’s degree in in Mass Communication from Uganda Christian University. Liliane is in-charge of IGCP’s effective communication to both internal and external publics, keeping them updated with information on mountain gorilla conservation in the region.

    Eustrate Uzabaho

    Eustrate Uzabaho

    Field Officer

    Eustrate joined IGCP in June 2014 as a Field Assistant for Tropical Ecology Assessment and Monitoring (TEAM) site established in the Virunga Massif and became Field Officer in February 2019. Eustrate is a Rwandese national and holds a Bachelor of Science in Botany and Conservation from the National University of Rwanda. Eustrate provides technical support to the monitoring and research work of IGCP and partners in the Virunga – Bwindi Landscape. Eustrate is passionate about understanding the ecological processes and systems.

    Richard Chota

    Finance and Administration Officer, Uganda

    Richard joined IGCP in 2010. Richard is a Ugandan national and holds a degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting from Bugema Adventist University Kampala. Richard is also a Certified Public Accountant in Uganda and a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. Richard supports the program’s financial management and Administration including accounting, budgeting preparation, financial reporting, assets management, Internal control and logistics. Richard is passionate about helping others, being creative, and learning.
