The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meeting for the International Gorilla Conservation Programme commenced today. TAG brings together IGCP board members, coalition partners and technical experts who will be reviewing programme performance over the years and providing strategic and technical guidance to guide future programme interventions. The TAG meeting is a critical governance and advisory platform that strengthens IGCP’s credibility, reinforces accountability, and ensures evidence-based programming in line with IGCP’s mission to secure the future for mountain gorillas and conserve their habitat across the Greater Virunga Landscape.

Speaking about the event, IGCP Director Wellard Makambo says, “We are excited about the turn up, all coalition and the board members are present. We hope this very important forum will redefine IGCP’s ways of operation.”
TAG was preceded with back-to-back events including a field visit to various IGCP projects in Rwanda, park expansion site, Human wildlife interventions e.g. buffalo wall and trench, agroforestry projects and the greenhouse project.

During the field visit IGCP team had the chance to interact with the communities, allowing for in-depth understanding and appreciation of IGCP Community engagement work. “It was great to see how extensive and diverse the work is to support communities and their livelihoods. It shows how much goes on behind the scenes to secure the future for mountain gorillas, Joanna Colley, participant from FFI.
Today IGCP is showcasing different projects to demonstrate the impact, generate discussions and practical actions points for the future.
