Transboundary Patrol Teams supported to Resume Work Around Bwindi-Virunga Landscape

Patrol teams in Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Area have received supplies including food rations, mosquito repellents and boots from IGCP to aid their work in the field. Patrol teams help in patrolling and surveilling the park especially the border areas of Virunga national park and BMCA. Their work
strengthens wildlife protection and reduces illegal activities in the park especially poaching which had seemingly increased. “Due to insecurity and COVID-19 joint patrols were halted for about two years, causing an increase in illegal activities around the shared Virunga landscape internal borders,” says Dickson Katana, Warden in charge of Southern Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Dickson adds that “Resuming these patrols gives us hope that the endangered mountain gorillas will be protected once again.”

The International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) currently consists of Conservation International, Fauna & Flora International and the World Wide Fund for Nature. We recognise that the earth's survival is dependent on humanity's ability to maintain a healthy and balanced environment that includes all species of wildlife.
